Host Extensions for IP Multicasting [RFC1112] specifies the extensions
required of a host implementation of the Internet Protocol (IP) to
support multicasting. The multicast addressess are in the range
224.0.0.0 through 239.255.255.255. Current addresses are listed below. www.iana.org/assignments/multicast-addresses

Not everyone is going to agree on just what happened to IP Multicast and its promise of mass media on the Internet, but one thing remains certain; IP Multicast is the only technology present in the interdomain routing infrastructure; hence, the only way to create large-scale transmissions of television, radio, or data on the Internet is to use IP Multicast.
